Capsular Patterns Flashcards
CERVICAL AROM: CAPSULAR PATTERN
C1- equal restriction of extension and side bending
-no issues with Rotation and flexion
C2-C7 capsular
-pain + equal limitation in everything except except flexion
Thoracic: CAPSULAR PATTERN
Greater issue with
1. extension
2. lateral flexion
3. rotation
4.forward flexion
Lumbar: CAPSULAR PATTERN
Worst limitation
1. side bending= same of on both R and L
2. flexion
3. extension
Capsular pattern shoulder
Greatest limitations in
1. external rotation
2. abduction
3. internal rotation
Ankle Capsular pattern
greatest limitation in
1. plantar flexion
2. dorsi flexion
3. inversion
4. eversion
Knee capsular pattern
greater limitation in
1. flexion
2. extension
NO limitation in rotations
Hip Capsular Pattern
greater limitation in
1. internal rotation
2. flexion
3. extension (slight)
NO limitation in Er or abduction
sign of the buttocks (non capsular)
straight leg test and flexion of the hip test will be the same degree
POSITIVE SIGN: Pathologies may include osteomyelitis, chronic septic SI arthritis, ischiorectal abscess, septic bursitis, neoplasm of upper femur, or
fractured sacrum.
Radiocarpal: CAPSULAR PATTERN
- Equal limitation of both flexion and extension
Midcarpal: CAPSULAR PATTERN
Slight limitation of both radial and ulnar deviation
Humeroulnar: CAPSULAR PATTERN
Greatest limitation of passive motion is in
1. ELBOW FLEXION,
2. Followed by ELBOW EXTENSION
