DISTRACTION TEST
Indications: Patient experiencing radicular symptoms of brachial plexus
or non-descript cervical pain.
Positive Finding – Relief of radicular pain
Generalized increased pain during test indicates a muscle spasm or strain (elongation of fibers). Cease
traction with this provocation.

Valsalva Maneuver

assess the middle-ear pressures and
creates physiological responses in the
blood pressure and heart rate

Reverse Bakody’s Sign
Neck & Upper Extremity pain
and/or paresthesia. Intolerance to cold. Cyanosis
of UE.
-PAIN with arm up- that’s why it is called reverse
Soto Hall Sign
Anterior Pain – suggests orthopedic pathology (i.e., compression fracture).
* Posterior Pain – suggests soft tissue injury (i.e., ligamentous).
O’Donoghue Maneuver
If pain is reproduced during:
* Resisted AROM – suggests muscle strain.
* Passive ROM – suggests soft tissue injury (i.e., ligamentous).
Conditions are not mutually exclusive
Schepelmann’s Sign
Positive Finding – Rib Pain
* Concave side: Intercostal neuritis
* Convex Side: Myofascitis, Pleuritis, Rib Fracture, Costal
subluxation.
