Dramatic play
single child imitating person/situation. “Playing pretend”
Socio-dramatic play
several children, imitating person/situation, most complex for toddlers
Personification
assigning human traits to objects; talking to stuffed animals
Projection
putting personal emotions on another person/object; “the dolls are sad”

learning about world, basically dramatic play; “house”, “school”
Onlooker behavior
child watches another child play, interactions between them, schemas built
Unoccupied behavior
not specific activity, fidgeting, daydreaming
Solitary play
independent/personal, totally involved, gaining information
Parallel play
no interaction, similar but separate toys
Associative play
interacting, similar activity, independently playing in a large group with no organizations; each kid plays a different role while playing kitchen
Cooperative play
2+ children, groups with roles, leader/follower dynamic, dramatic play
