Visual guidance
When performer is showed the skill through vids, pics, demonstrations
Pics must be clear and demos must be seen more then once and good quality
When to use visual guidance
Good for beginners create a mental image and good for when they can’t hear like during play
Advantages and disadvantages of visual
ADV - can break down skills, show individual what to copy, good for visual learners, can provide feedback,helpful when teaching tactic
DisADV - image must be correct, needs to be detailed and specific for Elite, time consuming
Verbal guidance and when it is used
When performer told information about how to complete correct technique - must be clear, conscientious, and can hear
Good for experience who know the movement and when demos are not possible
Adv and disadvantages of verbal
ADV - instructions given quickly, can be used during performances, no equipments
DISADV - information overload, learners only remember limited amount of information, not for beginners movements difficult to explain, don’t see perfect model.
Manual guidance and when it’s used
Coach physically supports or moves performer to help get into correct position
Used with performers of all abilities and skill levels particularly for beginners
Adv and DisADV of manual guidance
Adv - builds confidence, allows performer to get correct feel, good for safety, experience the skill, can break down movement
DISADV - can cause injury if not done well, learner can become dependent on the support, feeling not the same, can only be used 1 - 1
Mechanical guidance and when it is used
When the coach uses equipment to support the performer
All abilities can be used when dangerous
ADV AND DISADV of mechanical
Adv - builds confidence, ensure safety, learn skill without risk of injury, ideal of feel
DISADV - learner can become dependent, incorrect feeling can lead to incorrect movement, feeling not same as doing unaided
