Types Of Feedback Flashcards
What is feedback
Feedback helps to improve performance, correct errors in technique and motivate performers. For it to be effective it must be accurate, understandable and given in a timely manner.
What are the four types of feedback?
Concurrent feedback
Intrinsic feedback
Extrinsic feedback
Terminal feedback
Intrinsic feedback
This form is continuous and comes from within the performer and how the movement feels to them. Used by experienced performers - skill is well learnt so they can make their own amendments.
Extrinsic feedback
Comes from outside sources such as coaches, teammates, parents. Important as someone watching skill can observe and explain what needs to be done to correct.
Less experienced - unlikely to detect errors.
Concurrent feedback
Given during the game/performance. It can be intrinsic or extrinsic
Terminal feedback
Given after the performance. Sometimes due to nature of sport, feedback cannot be given during the performance. Effective if given right after completion of skill.
Why is intrinsic used by more experienced performers?
Because they understand how the movement feels from feedback from muscles. It it’s important so they spot their own errors and are not dependent on others.
