What is a kolkhoz?
A typical collective farm which combines the small individual farms in a cooperative structure.
What was the quota that kolkhozes had to give to the State?
40% of crops which is very high and they were payed a very low price for it
What happened if a kolkhoz didn’t make the quota?
They wouldn’t be paid
How were the profits that were left spread around the kolkhoz?
Any shared profits or goods would be given out based on the number of ‘labour days’ that each member contributed in the air
What were kolkhoz members allowed to do after 1932?
Any remaining grain could be sold on free markets
Who controlled the kolkhozes?
Each one had a Party member that would help control the collective
Why couldn’t kolkhoz members move around after 1932?
There were internal passports that meant that people couldn’t move from one place to another without one of these passports, restricting movement

A state farm that were created by communist purists to be the pinnacle of social agriculture
How sovkhoz members paid?
They were classed as workers so they were paid directly by the State
How were sovkhoz members organised?
They were landless peasants on farms that were specialised for large scale production

They provided tractors and machines to hire in farms to make them more efficient
