tutorial wk9 - models of health behaviour Flashcards
Helath belief model
Bleifs on heath determines health behaviour
>percieved severity
> percieved suseptability - will smoking give me lung cance
> percieved benefits of health action - will exercise actually help me
> perceived barriers - dont have time to excercise
> cues to action - see somewehere to call
> health motivation - general motvation to health
theory of planned behaviour
Predict you behavioral intention - intention is your most proximal effect of behavour
Intention is affected by attitude towards the behaviour
Outcome expectancy: concequences - if I eat too much then I will gain weight
Outcome value: what value do you put on
Social Part:
Subjective norms: what will others think of my behaviour
motivation to comply: even if you think others will judge will you care
Perceived behavioural control: can i actually do this
Intention:
Trans theoretic model (5 or 7 stages)
Precontemplation: someone has no intention of taking action in the next 6 months
Contemplation: aim is to
Preparation: key is motivation and self-efficacy
Action: make sure they have a realistic goal and that they dont give up - social support and reward
Maintenance: can target through self-monitoring and reinforcement - remind them why they are doing this in the first place; what it was like before hand etc
Termination: behaviour will not return - quit smoking for 0 years
Relapse:
Tailor our model and process to where people are at.
