What are behavioural pathogens?
Health damaging behaviours such as excessive behaviour
What are behavioural immunogens?
Health protective behaviours, such as exercise, screening etc
What are some reasons for people to continue smoking?
Physical and psychological addiction
Stress and anxiety control
No self-efficacy to quit - tried to quit before, so cant do it
What are some reasons for people to take up smoking?
Modelling - their parents smoke
Social factors
Weight control factors
What are the stats for never smoked and smoke once a week
Once a week:
2001: 19%
2013: 13%
Never:
2001: 51%
2013: 60%
What are the the socio-environmental factors that affect drinking.
Indigenous Aus: Abstinent but those who drink more likely at higher levels of binge drinking.
High SES at HIGHER risk of engaging in binge drinking.
Same sex orientation more likely also.
Prevalence of using a condom every time
2001: 41%
2013: 49%
Why don’t people use protection
Social factors:
> Awkwardness around factor - who’s role; lack of self-efficacy for use; attitude (spontaneity) - brings in temporal factors

Age
SES
Education
Location - in major cities more likely to meet guidelines
Confidence - if you just joined a gym, you may not feel comfortable
Time constraints - model for a family
Social support - number of active neighbours etc
Healthy Diet factors
Higher SES - fruit and veg are pretty expensive
Age - highest at youngest; dip at teenager; bit better at adulthood
Perceived barriers - preparation, cost (rural areas!)
Peer support
Self-efficacy
Availability (of both fruit and veg and unhealthy food)
Modelling by mother

Factors associated with HPV Vaccine

Program Location - higher for vaccination at school
Parental concern
Initiation with early sexual behaviour - idea that as you are vaccinating early, they will feel safe to have sex earlier.
