Tutorial 3 human evolution Flashcards
construct a more
detailed list of features which you think would separate humans from other members of
the Family Hominidae (hominids) to allow their classification into Genus Homo and
then species sapiens
Genus (Homo): Endocranial capacity bigger than 500cc, orthognathic face,
bipedal adaptations of pelvis (general shape, shape and orientation of iliac
blades, ischial length) and femur (medial femoral condyle > lateral femoral
condyle; relatively long neck of femur), position of the foramen magnum,
absence of pre-canine diastema, parabolic dental arcade.
Species (Homo sapiens): as above plus presence of a chin and large
neonatal (newborn) brain size.
