TSM 1.11 Flashcards
what is the Neuromuscular junction?
- specialised form of synapse
what enzyme converts acetyl-CoA to acetylcholine?
choline acetyltransferase
what are the stages of NMJ synaptic transmission?
- impulse cause increase permeability of calcium
- release of transmitter
- Ach binds to nicotinic receptors
- increase of sodium and potassium conductance
- generate end plate potential
what does SNARE proteins do?
- drag and pull the vesicle so that it cause fusion between vesicles and membrane
what does synaptobrevin do?
connect to vesicles and help with fine tuning
what does syntaxin do?
syntaxin helps to form stable SNARE complex
what does SNAP 25 do?
specificity of membrane fusion
what is quantal release?
- neurotransmitter in one vesicle –> quantum
what are subjunctional fold?
fold in the membrane of skeletal muscle
what is at the top of the fold?
nicotinic acetylcholine receptors
what is at the bottom of the fold?
voltage sensitive sodium channels
what is within the folds?
acetylcholinesterase
what enzymes breakdown acetycholine?
acetylcholinesterase
what does BoTox do?
- made up of light and heavy chain
- heavy chain allows protein to bind to and enter neurone
- light chain cleaves vesicle docking protein
what does curare do?
- competes with acetylcholine for receptor sites
