Trunk Mononeuropathies Flashcards
Describe compression of the Long Thoracic nerve. Symptoms?
From medial shoulder trauma; Causes winged scapula and shoulder pain.
Describe compression of Intercostal nerve. Symptoms?
Pain radiating around chest wall; Possible allodynia.
Describe Anterior Cutaneous nerve. Symptoms?
Irritation as it passes through abdominal wall. Sharp pain thats aggravated by voluntary contraction of abdominals.
Describe Lateral Femoral Cutaneous nerve compression. Symptoms? Tinel’s sign?
Compression as it passes under inguinal ligament. PNP in antero-lateral thigh. Aggravated by sitting and squatting; Tinel’s sign at inguinal ligament, 1 inch medial to ASIS.
Describe Ilioinguinal nerve compression. Symptoms? Tinel’s sign?
Compression at medial aspect of inguinal ligament from obesity or pregnancy. PNP at antero-medial thigh. Aggravated by squatting; Tinel’s sign at inguinal ligment.
Describe Genitofemoral nerve compression. Symptoms? Tinel’s sign?
Compression as it passes down ilioiguinal ligament to proximal thigh. PNP at proximal thigh, perineum, scrotum or labia majors. Aggravated by spine extension; Tinel’s sign at medial ilioinguinal ligament.
Describe Sciatic nerve compression. Sypmtoms?
Compression as it passes through piriformis muscle or lateral to ischial tuberosity or between hamstrings. PNP in posterior hip. Weakness in L4,5 and S1. Possible decrease in hamstring or Achilles reflexes.
