What is the P of the Intercostals?
Singing or playing the trumpet (deep breathing)
What is the MA of the Intercostals?
External Intercostals: draws the ribs superiorly to assist with inhalation (increasing the space of the thoracic cavity)
Internal Intercostals: draw the ribs inferiorly to assist with exhalation (decreasing the space of the thoracic cavity)
What is the O of the Intercostals?
Inferior border of the rib above
What is the I of the Intercostals?
Superior border of the rib below
What is the N for the Intercostals?
Thoracic intercostal nerves (T1-T11)
What is the P of the Diaphragm?
Singing or playing the trumpet (deep breathing)
What is the MA of the Diaphragm?
Draw down the central tendon of the diaphragm and increase the volume of the thoracic cavity during inhalation
What is the O of the Diaphragm?
Costal Attachment: inner surface of lower 6 ribs (7-12)
Lumbar Attachment: upper 2 or 3 lumbar vertebrae (L1-L2 or L1-L3)
Sternal Attachment: inner part of xiphoid process
What is the I of the Diaphragm?
Central tendon
What is the N for the Diaphragm?
Phrenic nerve (C3, C4, and C5)
C3, 4, 5 keep you alive
What is the P of the Quadratus Lumborum?
Lifting or walking
What is the MA of the Quadratus Lumborum?
Bilateral: fixes the last rib during forced inspiration
Unilateral: lateral tilt/hike/elevate the pelvis, lateral flexion of the vertebral column to the ipsilateral side, and extension of the vertebral column
What is the SA of the Quadratus Lumborum?
12th rib and tips of lumbar TP
What is the IA of the Quadratus Lumborum?
Iliolumbar ligament and iliac crest
What is the N for the Quadratus Lumborum?
Ventral branches of T12-L4
