Dorsal Scapular Muscles Flashcards
What is the MA of the Deltoid?
Clavicular (Anterior): flexion and medial (internal) rotation of the arm
Acromial (Middle): abduction of the arm
Spinal (Posterior): extension and lateral (external) rotation of the arm
What is the PA of the Deltoid?
Clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula (where trap ends)
What is the DA of the Deltoid?
Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
What is the N for the Deltoid?
Axillary nerve (C5 and C6)
What is the MA of the Pectoralis Major?
Adduction and medial (internal) rotation of the humerus
Protraction (abduction) of the scapula (draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly)
Horizontal adduction of the arm
Clavicular Head: flexion of the humerus
Sternocostal Head: extension of the humerus from the flexed position
What is the PA of the Pectoralis Major?
Clavicular Head: clavicle
Sternocostal Head: sternum, superior 6 costal cartilages, and external oblique muscle
What is the DA of the Pectoralis Major?
Lateral lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
What is the N for the Pectoralis Major?
Lateral and medial pectoral nerves: Clavicular Head (C5 and C6) and Sternocostal Head (C7, C8, T1)
What is the MA of the Pectoralis Minor?
Stabilization of scapula by drawing it inferiorly and anteriorly against thoracic wall
With the scapula fixed, assists to elevate the thorax during forced inhalation
What is the PA of the Pectoralis Minor?
Ribs 3-5
What is the DA of the Pectoralis Minor?
Coracoid process
What is the N for the Pectoralis Minor?
Medial pectoral nerve (C8 and T1) and lateral pectoral nerve (variable)
What is the MA of the Infraspinatus?
External rotation of the shoulder (glenohumeral joint)
MAIN EXTERNAL ROTATOR
What is the PA of the Infraspinatus?
Infraspinous fossa
What is the DA of the Infraspinatus?
Greater tubercle of humerus
What is the N for the Infraspinatus?
Suprascapular nerve (C5 and C6)
What is the MA of the Teres Major?
Adduction and internal (medial) rotation of the shoulder (glenohumeral joint)
What is the PA of the Teres Major?
Posterior scapula
What is the DA of the Teres Major?
Medial lip of intertubercular sulcus of the humerus
What is the N for the Teres Major?
Lower subscapular nerve (C5 and C6)
What is the MA of the Supraspinatus?
Initiates and assists deltoid in abduction of the arm
Stabilize the head of humerus in glenoid cavity, along with the other SITS muscles
What is the PA of the Supraspinatus?
Supraspinous fossa of the scapula
What is the DA of the Supraspinatus?
Greater tubercle of humerus
What is the N for the Supraspinatus?
Suprascapular nerve (C4, C5, and C6)
What is the MA of the Teres Minor?
External rotation of the shoulder (glenohumeral joint) and stabilization of the head of humerus in glenoid cavity
What is the PA of the Teres Minor?
Lateral border of the scapula
What is the DA of the Teres Minor?
Greater tubercle of the humerus
What is the N for the Teres Minor?
Axillary nerve (C5 and C6)
What is the MA of the Subscapularis?
Internal rotation of the shoulder and stabilization of the head of humerus in glenoid cavity
What is the PA of the Subscapularis?
Subscapular fossa
What is the DA of the Subscapularis?
Lesser tubercle of humerus
What is the N for the Subscapularis?
Upper and lower subscapular nerve (C5, C6, and C7)
What is the MA of the Serratus Anterior?
Protraction of the scapula (scapulothoracic joint), upward rotation of the scapula (scapulothoracic joint), and holds the scapula against the thoracic wall
What is the PA of the Serratus Anterior?
Lateral parts of ribs 1-8 or 1-9
What is the DA of the Serratus Anterior?
Medial border of scapula
What is the N for the Serratus Anterior?
Long thoracic nerve (C5, C6, and C7)
SALT- Serratus Anterior Long Thoracic
