Deep Back Muscles Flashcards
What is the P of the Splenius Capitis and Cervicis?
Social interaction and driving
What is the MA of the Splenius Capitis and Cervicis?
Bilaterally: extension of the head and neck
Unilaterally: lateral flexion of the neck and ipsilateral rotation of the head
What is the PA of the Splenius Capitis and Cervicis?
Nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7-T6 vertebrae
What is the DA of the Splenius Capitis?
Mastoid process and superior nuchal line
What is the DA of the Splenius Cervicis?
Transverse processes of C1-C4 vertebrae
What is the N for the Splenius Capitis and Cervicis?
Dorsal rami of spinal nerves
What is the P of the Erector Spinae Group?
Maintaining an upright posture for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)/Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)
What is the MA of the Erector Spinae Group?
Bilaterally: extension of the vertebral column
Unilaterally: lateral flexion of the vertebral column to the ipsilateral side
What is the PA of the Erector Spinae Group?
Common tendon (thoracolumbar fascia) that attaches to:
the posterior surface of the sacrum
iliac crest
spinous processes of T11-L5
What is the DA of the Iliocostalis?
Lower rib angles and cervical transverse processes
What is the DA of the Longissimus?
Between rib tubercles and angles to thoracic transverse processes
What is the DA of the Spinalis?
SP of upper thoracic vertebrae to SP of C2
What is the N for the Erector Spinae Group?
Dorsal rami of spinal nerves
What is the P of the Rotatores (Brevis and Longus)?
Tai chi or yoga (deep postural stability)
What is the MA of the Rotatores (Brevis and Longus)?
Bilaterally: extension of the vertebral column locally and may function as organs of proprioception
Unilaterally: contralateral rotation of the vertebral column
What is the IA of the Rotatores (Brevis and Longus)?
Transverse processes of vertebrae (thoracic the best)
What is the SA of the Rotatores (Brevis and Longus)?
Spinous processes of C2-L5 (rotatores brevis spans 1 vertebra and rotatores longus spans 2 vertebrae)
What is the N for the Rotatores (Brevis and Longus)?
Dorsal rami of the spinal nerves
What is the P of the Multifidus?
Tai chi or yoga (deep postural stability)
What is the MA of the Multifidus?
Bilaterally: extension of the vertebral column and stabilizes the vertebrae during local movements of the vertebral column
Unilaterally: contralateral rotation of the vertebral column
What is the IA of the Multifidus?
Arises from:
posterior sacrum
posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS)
aponeurosis of erector spinae
sacroiliac (SI) ligaments
mammillary processes of lumbar vertebrae
transverse processes of T1-T3
articular processes of C4-C7
What is the SA of the Multifidus?
Fibers pass obliquely superomedially through the entire length of spinous processes and spans 2-4 segments, thickest in the lumbar region
What is the N for the Multifidus?
Dorsal rami of the spinal nerves
What is the P of the Semispinalis?
Using a computer workstation and looking overhead
What is the MA of the Semispinalis?
Extension of the head, neck, and thoracic spine and contralateral rotation of the head, neck, and thoracic spine
What is the IA of the Semispinalis?
Transverse processes of C4-T12
What is the SA of the Semispinalis?
Fibers run superomedially to occipital bone and spinous processes in thoracic and cervical regions, spanning 4-6 segments
What is the N for the Semispinalis?
Cervical dorsal rami of the spinal cervical nerves
