Truailliú na Timpeallachta Flashcards
A long time ago, the environment was clean and perfect and it was rare the there was pollution
Tráth dá raibh, bhí an timpeallacht gan agus foirfe agus b’annamh a bhí truailliú ann
As there wasn’t a lot of industrialisation in the world, but we can’t claim that any longer
Toisc nach raibh go leor tionscalaíochta sa domhain, ach ní féidir linn maíomh as sin níos mó
Firstly, what does the word ‘environment’ mean? It is a very broad word, and it covers so much of the world around us
Ar dtús, cad is brí leis an focal ‘timpeallacht’? Is focal an-leathan é ar fad agus clúdaíonn sé uafás an domhain atá timpeall orainn
It is the ground, the air, the rivers, the foliage, the marshes, the pools and the lakes, and even the different insects that inhabit this planet.
Is í an talamh, an t-aer, na h-aibhneacha, an fásra, na portaigh, na linne agus locháin, agus fiú na feithidí éagsúla a áitíonn an plainéad seo
The person is part of the environment too and the towns and the cities in which we live as a human race are part of the environment
Is cuid den timpeallacht í an duine freisin agus is cuid den timpeallacht iad na sráidbhailte agus na cathracha ina gcónaímid mar chine daona
As it is said in that renowned work - “Desiderata”
Faoi mar a deirtear sa saothar iomráiteach sin; “Desiderata”
“You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars”
” Is gine de chuid na cruinne thú, ar aonchéim leis na crainn is na réaltaí “
With the arrival of industrialisation, a lot of problems came too
Le teacht tionscalaíochta tháinig go leor fadhbanna léi chomh maith.
With the car came traffic, fumes and smoke, and the factories - that’s a controversial story.
Leis an ghluaisteán tháinig trácht, toit is deatach, agus na monarchana - is scéal conspóideach é sin.
Most of the cities of Ireland are dirty, ruined and polluted, something that nobody can deny
Tá formhór cathracha na hÉirinn salach, millte agus truaillithe - rud nár féidir le héinne a shéanadh
Similarly our poisonous waste is being dumped by us into the rivers and and into the sea and us killing and contaminating thousands of fish at the same time
Mar an gcéanna tá ár bhfuilleach nimhneach á ndumpáil againn isteach sna h-aibhneacha agus san fharraige, agus na mílte éisc á mharú agus á ghalrú againn ag an am céanna
What can one say about about our streets and the way in which they are polluted with every type of rubbish and waste of every sort
Cad is féidir a rá faoinár sráideanna agus sa tslí ina mbíonna siad truaillithe le gach saghas bruascair agus drámháil den uile chinneál
It’s not surprising that we are called the dirty race
Ní h-aon ionadh é go nglaotar cien salach orainn
By the end of the nuclear era, this is the era of Chernobyl and Sellafield
Faoi dheireadh an ré eithneach, is é seo ré Chernobyl agus Sallafield,
Nuclear waste awfully scared the people in safety matters and a lot in health matters too
Chuir drámháil eithneach scanradh uafásach ar na daoine i gcúrsáí slándála agus go mór mór i gcúrsaí sláinte chomh maith
Pollution can be found everywhere in the world
Tá truailliú le fáil i ngach áit sa domhan
Wherever you go, whatever country you visit, it is there because the person is the enemy to the environment
Pé áit a théann tú, Pé tír a thugann tú cuairt aie, tá sé ann; toisc gurb é an duine mar namhaid don timpeallacht
But we can’t escape from the industrialisation as we are all depending on it in this day and age
Ach ní féidir linn éalú ón tionscalaíocht toisc go bhfuilimif go léir ag braith uirthi sa lá atá inniu ann
There is another type of pollution present, and that is noise pollution, and in places in which there is lots of housing, that is a widespread problem
Tá saghas truailliú eile ar fáil agus is é sin truailliú fuaime, agus in áiteanna áirithe ina bhfuil go leor tithíochta is fadhb forleathan í sin
Laws have been passed by the government that banned noises and sounds later than half ten, nightly
Tá dlíthe rite ag an rialtas a chuir cosc ar thorannacha agus ar fhuaimeanna níos déanaí ná leath uair tar éis a deich istoíche
And if one breaks that rule, you’ll know all about it!
Agus má bhristear an riail sin, ba mhairg duit!
The government can punish someone and fine companies that create pollution
Is féid leis an rialtas pionós a chuir ar dhaoine is fineáil a chur ar chomhlachtaú a cruthaíonn truailliú
Along with that we have the Green Party and there best being done by them to to nurture the environment and to guard it any way that they can
In éineacht le sin tá an Páirtí Glas againn is a ndícheall á dhéanamh acu chun an timpeallacht a chaomhnú is a chosaint pé slí ina bhfuil siad in ann
The goal that they have as well is to educate people so that they will understand the harm that is done polluting
Is é an cuspóir atá acu fresin ná daoine a oiliúint ionas o dtuigfish siad an díobháil a dhéantae ag truailliú
We don’t do a lot to protect our environment and it speaks volumes about us
Ní dhéanaimid go leor chun ár dtimpeallacht a chaomhnú agus insíonn sí scéal fuinne
The environment is a reflection of the life of the person
Is scáthán í an timpeallacht ar bheatha an duine
and even though we try, it is a small, feeble attempt - Look at Dublin City for example
Agus cé go ndéanaimid iarracht, is iarracht bheag, fhann í - féach ar Bhaile Átha Cliath mar shampla
At the end of the day, the environment is not ours, we don’t have any authority over it
Ar deireadh an lae, ní linne an timpeallacht, níl aon bhuanaíocht againn uirthi
It belongs to the children of tomorrow’s day, and it is our duty to guard it and nurture it for the generation of people that are not born yet
Is le páistí an lae amaraigh í agus tá sé mar dualgas orainne í a chosaint agus í a chaomhnú don ghlúin daoine nach bhfuil tagtha ar an saol seo go fóill
Our environment is our heritage
Is í an timpeallacht ár n-oidhreacht
If we think we have a godly right to have our own choice what to do with it, it won’t stay beautiful for long
Má cheapaimid go bhfuil ceart diaga againn ár rogha rud a dhéanamh leis, ní fhanfaidh sí go h-álainn i bhfad.
We should think about that!
Ba cheart dúinn smaoineamh ar sin!
