How does it present?
A
- Intense stabbing pain lasting seconds to minutes to trigeminal nerve distribution
- Unilateral most cases
- Affects maxillary or mandibular distribution
- Triggers for pain: washing face, shaving, eating, talking, vibrations

What investigations need doing in trigeminal neuralgia?
A
*MRI to exclude secondary casues such as tumours, aneuryms or malformations

What is the management of trigeminal neuralgia?
A
1st: Carbamazepine
2nd: other anti-epileptis lamotrigine or phenytoin
3rd: Botox
4th: Surgery but little evidence as it works
