Inflammation of the nasal mucosa

What are the two broad categories of causes of rhinitis?

Allergic (hay fever)
>Type 1 hypersensitivity to pollen, dust mites, pets, occupational
Non-Allergic

What is the presentation of rhinitis?
A
- Sneezing
- Itchiness of nose
- Blocked/runny nose
- Anosmia

What can be the management of rhinitis?
A
- Nasal douching
- Topical steroids to dampen inflammation
- Anti-histamine e.g. cetirizine, loratadine
- Allergen avoidance/desensitisation
- Decongestant e.g. oxymetazoline
