Trigeminal Nerve Flashcards
Describe the course of the trigeminal nerve
Pons, trigeminal ganglion forms in trigeminal cave, divides into ophthalmic, maxillary, mandibular
Which three foramen do the three divisions pass through?
V1- SOF
V2- Formanen rotundum
V3- Foramen ovale
“Standing Room Only”
What are the three branches of V1?
Frontal, lacrimal, nasociliary
What does the ophthalmic branch innervate? Parasymp?
Forehead and scalp Upper eyelid and its conjunctiva Frontal and ethmoidal sinuses Cornea Dorsum of nose PARASYMP to lacrimal gland
What are the afferent and efferent limbs of the corneal reflex?
Afferent- ophthalmic
Efferent- facial, leads to contraction of obicularis occuli
What does the maxillary branch innervate? Parasymp?
Lower eyelid and its conjunctiva Nasal cavity and lat nose Cheeks and maxillary sinus Upper lip and sup palate Upper incisors, canines and molars PARASYMP- lacrimal and nasal glands
What are the 4 branches of the mandibular nerve? Where do they arise?
Buccal
Inf alveolar
Lingual
Auriculotempral
In infra temporal fossa
What sensory stuff does the mandibular nerve innervate?
Mucous membranes and oral cavity floor External ear Lower lip and chin Lower molars, incisors, canines Ant 2/3 tongue GENERAL
What motor stuff does the mandibular nerve innervate? And parasymp?
Muscles of mastication
Ant belly digastric and mylohyoid
Tensor tympani and tensor veli palatani
Submandibular, sublingual, parotid- PARASYMP
Which derivatives of PA etc do the three branches innervate?
V1- frontonasal prominence
V2- maxillary province and 1st PA
V3- mandibular prominence and 1st PA
