Tri A - Tissue Repair Flashcards
Describe Inflammation
Non-specific response
Blood vessels dilate - capillary permeability increases
Histamine released
What are symptoms of inflammation? and what causes these?
Redness - increased blood flow
Heat - increased blood flow
Pain -
Swelling - fluid leaking due to increased permeability
Loss of function
Name the 3 cell types and their regenerative ability
Labile Cells - regenerate best
Stable Cells - lower turnover but still regenerate
Permanent Cells - cannot reproduce
What are the 3 stages of wound healing?
- contraction of wound
- tissue repair
- tissue regeneration
What’s the difference between repair and regeneration?
Repair - For deeper wounds, there will be both epithelial and connective tissue response - scarring will occur
Regeneration - Replacement of damaged cells - no scarring
Describe Primary Intention
Close edges,
Minimal tissue loss,
Minimal cell division required,
Little to no scarring
Describe Secondary Intension
Edges far apart,
Large tissue loss,
Extensive cell division,
Connective tissue response,
Scar formation
