What were the German trenches like
Much better quality than the British due to the fact they were more prepared for the war to last longer
What were the British trenches like
Extremely waterlogged due to the fact they only thought they’d be there for a few weeks
What was nomans land
The land between both the trenches
Craters from shells offered little protection
What was the outer trench called
The frontline which was used for combat and in a zigzag shape to prevent any easy shooting
What was used as protection in the trenches
Sand bags walls and barbed wire however they were not effective
What was the second Trench called
Support trench which offered more protection than the frontline as it was harder for enemies to get to
What trench was behind the support trench
The reserve trench which was a back up in case both trenches fell and contained dressing stations for the wounded
What was the communication trench used for
To pass on messages but was dangerous as it was an easy target for the enemies
What was considered away from the trenches
10/12km from the frontline where soldiers could rest in proper beds and eat proper food

Front line - 15%
Support trench - 10%
Reserve trench - 30%
Away from trenches - 45%
