A

Joseph lister (who also found carbolic acid ) in the 1870s
However in,h used it to treat a nurse as a one off

How did Alexander Fleming discover penicillin

A

Fleming left out Petri dishes while on holiday and mould grew killing the bacteria
Used it to kill bacteria in mice but couldn’t get it to work on humans
No one listened to his ideas as he didn’t have enough evidence

What did Florey and chain do

A

Heard of Flemings work in 1938
Tried it on a policeman with septasemia on his lip
Penicillin started to work however there wasn’t a full course and he died
Government gave them £25 grant to help research
Famous by ww1 and opened factories and gave out interest free loans to companies willing to make penicillin
