A

Recovered the wounded whilst being shot at
Had to get men through muting winding trenches without injuring them further
Has to carry bandages and morphine for the pain
Only 4 sets of stretcher bearers per 1000 men

Rap - what happened at the regimental aid post

A

Usually found in the support or the reserve trench
Simple dug out or sometimes a little hut
Run by an army medical officer
Bandaged up basic wounds and sent them back (walking wounded)
If seriously wounded sent to the field ambulance

Either sent to casualty clearing station or back to the front lines

Cas - casualty clearing station

A

Similar to hospitals but close to fighting
12 miles from the front line in huts, schools or factories
Only around 7 doctors with a team of nurses
Only did quick surgeries
Had operating theatres, mobile x ray machines and beds for 50 men
Space for 1000 soldiers at once

H - hospitals

A

Army took over normal hospitals
Men here usually had long term injuries
Normally near railway stations so easily accessible
Large hospitals could have 2500 injured soldiers at once
Had x ray machines and specialised units for gas victims
