Gonorrhea
Ceftriaxone + (for chlamydia) Azithromycin (single dose) or Doxycycline (7 days)
Syphillis
Penicillin G
Trichomoniasis
Metronidozole (single dose) or Tinidazole (single dose)
Both are members of nitroimidozole family- used for anaerobic bacteria and sensitive protozoans (should abstain from alcohol 24 and 72 hr respectively)
Bacterial Vaginosis
Metronidozole (7 days) or Metronidazole gel (5 days) or clindamycin cream (7 days)
Pelvic inflammatory disease
Goal: cover gonnorhea, chlamydia, anaerobes, gram neg facultative bacteria, and strep
Parental
Cefotetan (IV q12 hrs) or Cefoxitin (IV q12 hrs) + Doxycline (oral or IV q12 hrs)
Cefotetan and cefoxitin- 2nd gen cephalosporins but called cephamycins; avoid alcohol (some oral drugs formulated with ethanol)
Oral
Levofloxacin (14 days) or Ofloxacin (14 days) w/ or w/o metronidazole (14 days)
Levofloxacin and ofloxacin- fluroquinolone
Herpes
First outbreak: Acyclovir (7-10 days)
Suppressive therapy: Acyclovir (twice daily)
