Pelvic inflammatory disease

A

Goal: cover gonnorhea, chlamydia, anaerobes, gram neg facultative bacteria, and strep

Parental
Cefotetan (IV q12 hrs) or Cefoxitin (IV q12 hrs) + Doxycline (oral or IV q12 hrs)

Cefotetan and cefoxitin- 2nd gen cephalosporins but called cephamycins; avoid alcohol (some oral drugs formulated with ethanol)

Oral
Levofloxacin (14 days) or Ofloxacin (14 days) w/ or w/o metronidazole (14 days)

Levofloxacin and ofloxacin- fluroquinolone
