Antidepressants Flashcards
Bupropion
Atypical antidepressant - NDRI
Causes release of NE and kinda dopamine and inhibits dopamine and NE reuptake
Resembles amphetamine
Use: depression atypical
Adjunct in smoking cessation
ADHD
tranylcypromine
MAOI
- irreversible and non-selective inhibit action of a and b MAO
- used when the patient doesn’t to respond to other treatments - atypical depression
Others: isocarboxazid, phenelzine
Selegiline,
MAOI
Mao b at normal doses
- irreversible inhibition of MAO A and B at high concentrations
Uses : depression and adjunct in Parkinson’s
Amitriptyline
Tricyclic antidepressant
MOA: inhibition of NE and 5-HT reuptake
Not commonly used because of adverse effects.
At lower end may be used for pain and migraine prophylaxis
Others: nortriptyline, imipramine, desipramine, clomipramine
Imipramine
Tricyclic antidepressant
MOA: inhibition of NE and 5-HT reuptake
Not commonly used because of adverse effects.
At lower end may be used for pain and migraine prophylaxis
Enuresis
Others: amitriptyline, nortriptyline,desipramine, clomipramine
Desipramine
Tricyclic antidepressant
MOA: inhibition of NE and 5-HT reuptake
Not commonly used because of adverse effects.
At lower end may be used for pain and migraine prophylaxis
Others: amitriptyline, nortriptyline,imipramine, clomipramine
Fluoxetine
SSRI’s
Selective serotonin reuptake blocker
Uses: depression ( typical and melancholic)
Anxiety, OCD ( not citalopram) , panic disorder, PTSD , premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Others: citalopram, sertraline, fluvoxamine, paroxetine
clomipramine
Tricyclic antidepressant
MOA: inhibition of NE and 5-HT reuptake
Not commonly used because of adverse effects.
At lower end may be used for pain and migraine prophylaxis
OCD
Others: amitriptyline, nortriptyline,imipramine, desipramine
Mirtazapine
5HT2 receptor antagonist
Inhibits autoregulation of NE and 5HT neurons by blocking alpha-2 presynaptic receptors and 5HT2A, 2C and 3 postsynaptically .
Uses: depression ( melancholic)
Duloxetine
Inhibition org NE and 5-HT reuptake
SNRI’s
⭐️don’t bind to histamine, alpha adrenergic and muscarinic receptors so are better tolerated than tricyclics
Uses: atypical depression, anxiety, stress, urinary incontinence, vasomotor symptoms of menopause, pain syndromes
Other : venlafaxine
Citalopram
SSRI’s
Selective serotonin reuptake blocker
Uses: depression ( typical and melancholic)
Anxiety, OCD ( not citalopram) , panic disorder, PTSD , premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Others: , sertraline, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine
Sertraline
SSRI’s
Selective serotonin reuptake blocker
Uses: depression ( typical and melancholic)
Anxiety, OCD ( not citalopram) , panic disorder, PTSD , premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Others: citalopram, , fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine
Venlafaxine
Inhibition org NE and 5-HT reuptake
SNRI’s
⭐️don’t bind to histamine, alpha adrenergic and muscarinic receptors so are better tolerated than tricyclics
Uses: atypical depression, anxiety, stress, urinary incontinence, vasomotor symptoms of menopause
Other : dullxetine
Trazadone
Blocks 5HT reuptake and inhibits 5HT2A receptors postsynaptically
Uses: insomnia
Phenelzine
MAOI
- irreversible and non-selective inhibit action of a and b MAO
