Transudate vs exudate Flashcards
1
Q
transudate vs exudate causes
A
transudate = due to increased hydrostatic pressure/reduced colloid osmotic pressure (v-- protein (mainly albumin) in blood vessel .,. less fluid pulled into blood vessel) exudate = inflammation
2
Q
protein content and appearance transudate vs exudate
A
transudate low protein .,. clear
exudate high protein .,. cloudy (lots of inflammatory cells and factors e.g. igg. not sure if this is true but makes sense)
3
Q
how to distinguish if have a sample
A
level of lactate dehydrogenase >0.6 = exudate
4
Q
causes of transudate (4)
A
Left HF (increased hydrostatic pressure in vessels)
cirrhosis (hypoalbuminism)
nephrotic syndrome (hypoalbuminism)
malnutrition (hypoalbuminism)
5
Q
is the pleural effusion in HF a transudate or exudate
A
transudate
