Four things that can be transfused
RBC (1 bag / dose)
platelets (1 bag / dose)
cryoprecipitate (2 bags)
FFP (3 bags)

usually 2, max 4
when to givce bllood
optimise haematopoiesis
minimise blood loss/bleeding
harness and optimise physiological tolerance of anaemia
indicated when Hb <70

previousy had transfusion
what is group and save
finding out blood groups and antibodies
what to chekc
no discolouration/clots
blood group of mag matches pt
donation no on label = donation no on bag
expiry date
transfusion reactio nsymptoms
chest pain loin pain sob rash anxiety blood in urine
when to do obs
within hr prior to transfusion
15 mins into transfusion
then hourly
at end
when to stop
temp increase >2 degrees. (1 is common) temp 39 decrease rigors unexpected change in BP ews >=3
what is TACO and what sx?
transfusion associated cardiac overload acute resp distresy tachycard increase PB worsening pulmonary oedema
who is at risk of TACO
low body wieght
lv dysfunction
renal dysfucntion
+ve fluid balance in previous 24 hr
