Xylem
A
Transports mineral and ions up through the plant from the root to the stem leaves.
It travels upwards only and requires no energy as it is a physical process.

Phloem
A
Transports dissolved food such a glucose up through the phloem to the meristem and down the phloem to the roots ( the roots cannot carry out photosynthesis they need food for the top)
It travels in both directions and requires energy.
