Genetic Modifciation Flashcards
What is it?
The process in which a gene or genes are moved from one species to another.
Current Uses: Human insulin in Bacteria
Diabetes is a non communicable disorder where the body’s glucose levels is too high as the glucose is not effectively removed from the blood. It can been treated by injecting insulin bacterial cells that have been genetically modified to produces substances such as insulin.
GM
Genetically Modified crops are those that are resistant to attacks or herbicide resistant, this produces yields (mass of crops produced.)
Golden Rice
A gene added to wild rice that make it produce beta carotene (red or orange pigment important for health) in order to make Vitamin A which is essential for good Health.
Good for poorer countries.
