A

A

learning a skil inhibits the learning of an additional skill, e.g. learning the forehand drive in tennis hinders the forehand clear in badminton

what is a zero transfer

A

there are no similarities between tasks and therefore no effect on either skill e.g. learning to tackle in rugby has no effect on a backflip in gymnastics

A

learning and performing the skill on one side of the body is transferred to the opposite side e.g. darts with your left hand then learning with your right hand

how can a coach encourage positive transfer

A

ensure the performer had properly learned the first skill before introducing the new skill, make the practice environment as close to the game as possible, give praise/positive reinforcement, avoid teaching similar but different skills close together e.g. spin in dance or ice skating
