Learning theories Flashcards
what is the cognitive theory ‘insight learning’? who made it?
Gestalt theorised that we learn skills through experiencing the whole task/skill rather than isolated parts/subroutines
what is the behaviourism theory ‘operant conditioning’? who made it?
Skinner theorised that learning happens by strengthening and making a link between a stimulus and response, known as an S-R bond
what is the social learning theory ‘observational learning’ and who made it?
Bandits theorised that we learn by watching and replicating the actions of other ‘model’ performers who we respect and admire
what is the social development theory and who theorised it?
vygotsky theorised that learning is a social process and social interaction plays a role in an individuals development
for insight learning what does a performer actually do?
they have to think about what to do using their experiences and prior knowledge to help with the situation their faces with even if it’s a new situation
I’m operant conditioning what techniques should a coach apply
trial and error, manipulate environment, when a correct response is shown give a satisfier(positive reinforcement), when incorrect response is shown give an annoyer(negative feedback)
what is an S-R bond and how is it relevant
a stimulus-response bond, in operant conditioning positive and negative reinforcement are used to shape behaviour and form S-R bonds
who are considered significant others/model performers in observational learning
family members, coaches, teachers, peers or role models in the media
in the social development theory what are the 3 factors that effect
role of social interaction, more knowledgable other, zone of proximal development
