reaction, response and movement times Flashcards
what is simple reaction time
when there’s one stimulus and one response, very fast e.g. starter signal in swimming the only response is to dive in
what is choice reaction some
when there’s several stimuli and several possible responses, slower reaction times, e.g. several team mates calling for a pass, who do u pass too and what type of pass
what is reaction time
time from stimulus being presented to the performer beginning to respond to it
what is movement time
the time from beginning to end of movement
what is response tome
reaction time plus movement tome, from when stimulus is presented to end of movement, fine from onset of stimulus to completion of task
give an example of this
in a 100m race reaction time is from when performer hears gun sound and when they begin to push on the blocks, movement time is from when they push on blocks to crossing the finish line and response time is from hearing sound(stimulus) to crossing finish line
What is hicks law
as the number of choices increase reaction time decreases, though it is not linear
what is the single channel flow hypothesis
only process one piece of informs at a time so any other stimuli must wait as a ‘bottleneck’ occurs, we just finish processing first stimulus until second can be dealt with,
