What is training?
TRAINING means teaching employees the skills and knowledge needed to do their job
What is induction training?
INDUCTION TRAINING is the introductory training that is given to new employees. It is about the business, rather than how to do the job itself, and will include: • Layout of premises • Health and safety rules • Introductions to important personnel • Refreshment and toilet facilities • Using equipment / machinery • Other rules and regulations
What’s on the job training?
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING means that employees are trained whilst working alongside other employees.
What’s off the job training?
OFF-THE-JOB TRAINING means that employees are trained away from their usual work- place. It can either be in-house (provided by other employees of the same business) or external (at a college or specialist training centre).
What’s in service training?
IN-SERVICE TRAINING comes after you’ve been in a job for some time. Maybe because the firm needs to update workers on new technology or needs to move workers to a different area of work.
Advantages and disadvantages of on the job training?
Advantages of on-the-job training
It is cheaper
It gives employees hands-on experience of the practical skills needed for their day-to-day jobs
Disadvantages of on-the-job training
The quality of training may be poor, as those providing it are not specialist trainers
The people providing the training are prevented from doing their normal jobs
Advantages and disadvantages of off the job training?
Advantages of off-the-job training
It is provided by people who are experts in training, so the quality should he high
People providing the training are not taken away from their normal jobs
Disadvantages of off-the-job training
It is more expensive
It may not be completely related to the employees’ day-to-day jobs
