What’s the equality act?
The Equality Act 2010
• No discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, age or disability.
• This includes recruitment, pay, training, promotion, and dismissal
• Employers must make ‘reasonable’ adjustments to the workplace for disabled employees.

• Employers must provide safe and healthy working conditions for employees, as well as relevant training and instructions
• Employers must pay at least the national minimum wage (ages 16 to 24) or the national living wage (ages 25 and above)
• Employers must provide a written contract of employment.
• Employers cannot force employees to work, on average, more than 48 hours a week
• No unfair dismissal.
Dismissal is unfair unless:
✓ It is due to the employee being unable or not qualified to do the job,
✓ There has been serious misconduct such as violence or theft
✓ There have been a series of warnings for minor misconduct
✓ It is due to redundancy
