Explain the storage of glycogen

A
  • The liver responds to the hormones insulin and glycogen to control glucose levels in the blood.
  • The liver converts glycogen into glucose in a process called glucogenesis.
  • The glycogen is stored in the liver until the glucose is needed for energy

Explain detoxification

A
  • hydrogen peroxide broken down by catalase into oxygen and water, it is an intracellular - works within hepacytes.
  • Catalse is a globular protein (circular/insoluble/ has hydrophillic and hydrophobc regions)
  • Alcohol-broken by alcohol dehydorgenase into ethanol than ethnoate used for repiration for bulit up fatty acids.
