Transport in animals Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 4 types ?
A
- Open cs
- Closed cs
- Single closed cs
- Double- closed cs
1
Q
What is a circulatory system ?
A
- They transport gases and nutrients around organisms in a transport liquid and are transported in vessels and pump to move liquid (heart)
2
Q
Explain open circulatory system
A
- Invertebrates, insects have it
- Transport Medium usuallly pumped directly to open body cavity few transport vessels
- Pumped at a lower pressure and it transports food , nutrients and nitrogenus waste and gases tracheal system
-Once exchange has taken place the transport medium returns to heart in an open-ended vessel
3
Q
Explain closed cirulatory system
A
- Vertebrates- fish/mammals
- Blood is the transport meduim in blood vessels
- Gases - small molecules can leave through diffusion or due to high hydrostatic pressure
- Closed ciruclatory system transport the o2 and co2 and the o2 is carried by haemoglobin
4
Q
EXplain single closed
A
- Blood passes through once per cycle- fish
- passes through two sets of capillaries
- then flows into capillaries to body before returning back to the heart
- not efficient for gas exchange but works for fish due to counter current flow
5
Q
Explain double closed cirulatory system
A
- blood passes through blood twice
- one circuit of blood vessels carries blood from heart to lungs to gas exchange
- second circuit blood vessels carries blood from heart to rest of body to deliver o2, nutrients and collect waste
