Topic 4 (evolving physicla landscape) Flashcards
Igneous rock
molten rock from a volcano that has been cooled eg basalt rock
Sedimentary rock
made from parts of rock that have been deposited and relayered eg limestone
Metamorphic rock
rocks that have been changed by great heat pressure eg slate
Where is igneous rock found?
in upland areas like scotland, the lake district and snowdonia
Where is metamorphic rock found?
in northern ireland and scotland
Where is sedimentary rock found?
widely found across lowland areas of england
How does past glacial activity develop UPLAND landscapes?
Corrie glaciers formed in upland areas during the last ice age, they soon began to flow into upland river valleys
overtime these vshaped valleys were made deeper and wider by the erosive power of these valley glaciers.
plucking and abrasion transformed them into ushaped valleys or troughs
