Mumbai is india’s largest city and has a major port, 40% of india’s exports come from mumbai. Mumbai serves as india economic hub and is home to leading banks such as the rescue bank of india.
Many TNCs are located within mumbai such as walt disney. This has resulted in mumbai generating 1/6th of india’s GDP.
Mumbai is also home to bollywood which release 200million films a year internationally.
Mumbai has 10 Unis and many research centres specialising in IT and engineering, and 3 million people commute to mumbai from surrounding areas for work
How is mumbai connected to other places?
india’s largest international airport is located in Mumbai, connecting it to countries all over the world for business and tourism. Mumbai is home to bollywood which makes over 200million films per year and people from all over the world watch them and it attracts many tourists

Britain was important to mumbais industrial growth, britain imported cotton from india and as a result, railways were built to help with exports.
Textile development allowed for factories to develop and help grow mumbais economy. Inward migration (rural-urban) lead to a growth in the workforce

Mumbais textile factories started to decline. Mumbais port started to decline as a result in a fall in exports from textile industries. Banking (tertiary jobs) started to take off in place of these secondary (manufacturing) jobs.
