Why do we need a hierarchy to organise all the species?
To understand the relationships between organisms and keep track of changes.
System must be universal so we can share info globally to help keep track of shit
State the Taxa in order

Dear King Phillip Came Over For Gay Sex
What is a hierarchy
Smaller groups arranged within larger groups.
No Overlap between groups.
Why do different species look similar?
e.g. Llama and Camel
- Similar environments
- therefore similar selection pressures
- similar alleles will have the selective advantage
- produces similar proteins and therefore have similar characteristics.
Binomial System
the system used to name species.
Each species is given a name that consists of two parts.
1. GENUS
2. SPECIES NAME
For example, Apis mellifera (the honey bee).
Phylogeny
arranges species into groups according to their evolutionary origins
Tells us who’s related to who, how closely related they are.
all organisms have evolved from relatives and we see that on phylogenetic tree.
