A

blood passes through heart TWICE in each circuit. There are TWO Circuits.
Circuit 1: Delivers blood to lungs
Circuit 2: Delivers blood to rest of the body

Why do mammals have a double circulatory system.

A

We need to control the pressure of blood flow.
E.g. when delivering to lungs we need a low pressure to minimize chance of damage to alveoli.
Lower pressure also means blood is going slower enabling more time for Gas Exchange.
