Topic 3 - Gas Exchange in Plants [13] Flashcards
Xerophytic Plants are Plants that can survive in harsh conditions with lack of water. How do they limit water loss?
Curled up Leaves to trap moisture, increasing humidity.
Hairs to trap moisture, increasing humidity.
Sunken stomata to trap moisture, increase humidity.
Thick Cuticle to reduce evaporation
Longer root network to reach more water.
How has the stomata adapted to limit water loss
Closes at night when photosynthesis wont be occuring to reduce water loss by evaporation.
Stomata
What Diffuses Out
What Diffuses in
OXYGEN OUT
CO2 IN
Structure of Dicotyledonous
Dico Leaf
what are the 4 structures?
Stomata = gap that is formed by 2 guard cells. The Site of Gas Exchange
CO2 goes in to the spongy mesophyll where there is lots of space. Can then diffuse to next layer Palisade Mesophyll.
space helps with maintaining gradient
Vascular Bundle - where xylem and phloem tissue is, transport water and minerals in xylem, sucrose in phloem.
