the general direction that a fashion style takes

-styles currently accepted and worn by many people

-sold in chain stores
-affordable
remain in fashion for +/- 2-3 years
High Fashion
- unique, exclusive styles created by fashion designers
- very expensive due to limited number made and outstanding quality of textiles used
What is a fashion fad?
- rapidly accepted and worn by small group
- suddenly become popular, disappear quickly
- last (usually) only one season
Classic syle
- also called timeless fashion
- remain in fashion due to simplicity and good quality
- good investment as they remain popular for a long time
- eg, denim jeans, tailored suits, cardigans
What is a fashion cycle?
life cycle of a style or fashion trend
The 5 stages of the fashion cycle
- ) Introduction: the fashion is accepted or rejected

- ) Peak: fashion reaches the height of its popularity, many people wear it

- styles are always adapted to meet needs of current period
