Social psychology
scientific investigation into the thoughts, feelings and, *behaviour of individuals who are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence of others
Intra-personal
within individual, how do they experience the social environment
Inter-personal
between individuals, how do they experience the situation between people and within a specific situation
Positional
between people within a specific situation, but also acknowledge their position outside the situation
Idealogical
acknowledging social beliefs and dynamics
person-situation interaction
It is the dynamic relationship between individuals and the people around them
Person individual x situation/social context/environment = BEHAVIOR
Belonging hypothesis
Belonging hypothesis is the Need to Belong or Need for affiliation = the basic motive to seek, form, and maintain positive social contact with others
Underlying assumptions of this hypothesis:
- Neurological basis
- Vital to our psychological well-being (improves self-esteem, mood, life satisfaction, etc.)
- Has evolutionary underpinnings (cooperating and being with others increases our survival)
