MOA, effects:
Act on mule, kappa and gamma receptors as agonsits
-> constipation, repiratory depression, analgesia, sedation, bradycardai, increase in PaCO2, histamine release with bronchospasm, hypotension
- decreases cerebral blood flow, cerebral blood volume, cerebral O2 consumption, and intracranial pressure
Uses:
Diarrhea, analgesia, sedation, cough
Side effects:
Urinary retention, decreased peristalsis, respiratory dderpression, cardiac depression, N/V
Examples with doses:
Morphine - 10-15mg
Pethidine - 100mg
tramadol - 100mg
Fentanyl - 100 micrograms
Side effects of NSAIDs
Gastric and duodenal ulcer (w/ rish of GI bleeding),
Increased risk of heart attack and stroke
Renal function impairment, aplastic anemia
