Titration practical Flashcards
what’s a Pipette
a slender plastic tube attached to or incorporating a bulb, for transferring or measuring out small quantities of liquid, especially in a laboratory.
what’s a burette
laboratory apparatus used in quantitative chemical analysis to measure the volume of a liquid or a gas. It consists of a graduated glass tube with a stopcock
How many decimal places should a titre be recorded to?
2
If the start reading in a titration is 0.50 cm3 and the end reading is 26.95 cm3, what is the titre?
The titre is (end reading - start reading) = 26.95 cm3 - 0.50 cm3 = 26.45 cm3.
Three titres are calculated: 25.20 cm3, 25.30 cm3, 25.35 cm3. What is the mean titre?
The mean titre is the sum of the three titres divided by the number of titres. (25.20 cm3 + 25.30 cm3 ) ÷ 2 = 25.25 cm3.
What is the amount in mol of sodium hydroxide in 25.00 cm3 of a solution of concentration 0.10 mol/dm3? - Higher
The volume in dm3 = 25.00 ÷ 1000 = 0.025 dm3. The amount in mol = concentration × volume. So the amount = 0.10 mol/dm3 × 0.025 dm3 = 0.0025 mol.
What is the concentration of a 0.10 mol/dm3 solution of sodium hydroxide, NaOH, in g/dm3? - Higher
Ar of Na = 23, Ar of O = 16, Ar of H = 1.
The concentration in g/dm3 is equal to the concentration in mol/dm3 × the relative formula mass. So concentration in g/dm3 = 0.10 mol/dm3 × (23 + 16 + 1) g = 4.0 g/dm3.
What is the concentration in mol/dm3 of a solution in which 0.40 mol of alkali is dissolved in 250 cm3 of solution? - Higher
The concentration in mol/dm3 = the amount of solute in mol / the volume in dm3. So concentration = 0.4 mol / 0.250 dm3 = 1.60 mol/dm3.
