Q

What is the organization of the body?

A

Atoms form molecules, which are organized into organelles, which are contained within cells, cells group together to form tissues, tissues form organs, which form organ systems, all organs form a human organism.

Q

Where is epithelial tissue found and it’s functions?

A

Covers the body’s surface, lines cavities and organs, forms certain glands

Ita functions are protection, absorption, filtration, and secretion.

Q

Where are membranes found and their functions?

A

They line body cavities, cover body surfaces, separate organs from other organs

Some membranes secrete lubrication to prevent friction

Q

What is collagen?

A

The body’s most abundant protein. It forms ligaments, tendons, the matrix of bone and cartilage, and forms deep in the skin.

Q

What is the key points of cartilage and the 3 types and were are they found?

A

Contains no blood vessels, receives nutrients and oxygen by diffusion from connective tissue around it. Causes it to heal slowly or not at all.
Made of cells called chondrocytes.
Rubbery and flexible matrix

Hyaline: most common and found in the ends of joints that move.
Elastic: provides support to the extern ear and epiglottis
Fibrocartilage: the strongest. Forms between vertebrae and the knee to withstand high pressure.

Q

What is osseous tissue and its functions?

A

AKA bone, it’s made from cells called osteocytes embedded in a matrix of collagen fibers and mineral salts. The mineral salts make bone hard.

Bones provide structure, protection for organs, and support for the body

Q

What is simple squamous epithelium?

A

A single layer of flat cells, which allows for ready diffusion or filtration, found in the alveoli and lining of blood and lymphatic vessels

Q

What is transitional epithelium?

A

Multiple cell layers that can stretch and change shape, found in the urinary tract and the stretching allows for filling of urine
