C17 Lymphatic Flashcards
Memorize
What is active immunity?
Antibodies or T cells made by the body
What is passive immunity?
Immunity from injections of antibodies or the passing of antibodies from another person or animal
What is specific immunity and it’s two components?
Directed against a specific pathogen.
Cell-mediated Immunity
Humoral immunity
What is cell mediated immunity?
destroys pathogens within a cell by using 3 types of T cells: cytotoxic T cells, helper T cells, and memory T cells
What is humoral immunity?
Focuses on pathogens outside the host cell, uses antibodies to mark antigen for later destruction
What are the 3 functions of the lymphatic system?
Immunity, transportation of fats and vitamins, returns tissue fluid to CV system
What are the two collecting ducts and which part of the body drains into them?
Right subclavian vein drained by Right lymphatic duct
Left subclavian vein drained by thoracic duct
What are the 5 organs of the lymphatic system?
Red bone marrow Thymus Lymph nodes Spleen Tonsils
What is the spleen responsible for?
Destruction of old RBC’s
Blood storage
Hematopoiesis in the fetus
What are the 3 body defenses?
1st line: physical and chemical barriers
2nd line: antimicrobial proteins, phagocytes, and natural killer cells
Specific immunity: cell mediated and antibody mediated
