Tissue fluid formation Flashcards

1
Q

What is blood like at the arterial end of the capillary

A

Relatively high pressure - forces water and small molecules out through the capillary wall by ultrafiltration

Q

What do the plasma proteins that remain in the blood do and why

A

Exert and osmotic effect - draws some water back into the capillary (not enough to counteract loss due to blood pressure)

Q

What happens at the venous end of the capillary

A

blood under lower pressure which means osmotic pressure exerted by plasma proteins is greater than the blood pressure - netflow of water therefore into capillary inbetween spaces in cell
