What were India’s two smaller states/empires called?
Mughals and Maurya
What were the religions of the Mughal Empire, British East India Company and the British Raj
Mughal - Islam British East India Company - Christian British Raj - Christian
What did the Delhi Sultanate do?
they tried to take over India (V. Empire stopped them), but in doing so, they had spread Islam across the subcontinent
What did the Maratha & Sikhs do?
Mughals lost their power (we’ll see why soon), and a Hindu nation took charge again. Also, Sikhism was created! (ANOTHER Religion!)
What did the Mughals do?
Very powerful empire, started by conquering the D.S., then just kept going!
What did the British do to India?
The British fought the French off the subcontinent, then got greedy and took over India for themselves!
When did the Mughal Empire rule and what were they known for?
1526–1761 CE
1. Babur
2. Akbar the Great
3. Aurangzeb
What did Baubar do?
He was born noble in Persian but he got forced out, he wanted somewhere to conquer so he chose India. Spent 20 years trying to conquer the Delhi Sultanate and set up the Mughal Empire in 1526.
What did Akbar the Great do?
He kept conquering India, but when he came
to each local ruler, he gave them two options:
1. Fight, and die or be banished if defeated
2. Or keep ruling their region but under the
Mughal Empire
He was relatively peaceful and made up new rules or changed some old ones.
What did Aurangzeb do?
he didnt like the rules that Akbar set up so he changed a lot of them. People didn’t like that so they rebelled. He was a Muslim.
