Culture leaves an impact on empires. It can be used to show
power, bring people together, and leave a legacy by which to

- The Imperial court was full of musicians,
artists, historians, advisers, servants, family,

- The Durbar was the emperor’s most
decorated room and was where he met with
visitors. The detail in the grand pillars and
embroidered tapestries symbolized power. - India continued using Durbars even after the

Who are Artisans?
They were responsible for textiles,
embroidery, metalwork, glassware, jewelry.
Who built the Taj Mahal?
The Taj Mahal was built by Aurangzeb’s father Jahan in
memory of his third wife.
Side note: Aurangzeb didn’t build many structures to honour
himself. He famously was buried in a simple peasant tomb.

What empire were the Mughals know as?
The Mughals were one of the three empires known as the ‘Gunpowder
Empires’. These Islamic empires were among the first nations to master
the use of muskets and gunpowder. In their prime they won many
battles.
