Facts about Sikhism
- youngest religion in the world
- Most sikhs live in the Punjab region in India. (also where they originated)
- originated in 1500 CE
- They give out free food
Sikhism Founder
Guru Nanak (1469- 1539), he loved differnet religions, but hated the Hindu Caste system.
He had an experience with god, and started the line of the 10 gurus.
Core Beliefs: There is one god
There is one god, Waheguru, formless and genderless.
Core beliefs: Equality
All people are equal, including women.
Core Beliefs : Reincarnation, karma, and Mukti
Reincarnation, karma, and mukti, like Moksha. Mukti is achieved through recognising you oneness with Waheguru.
Core Beliefs: Maya
Maya distracts you from god and leads to build an ego.
Sikhism Traditions
The 10th Guru enforced all gurus to carry 5 things, to be distinguished, eg, sword, steel bracelet, cotton underwear, wooden comb, uncut haair
Sikh Empire vs Mughals
The mughals grew to hate sikhs, as they became a threat and stole there muslims. They killed the 9th Guru, and the sikhs were disbanded for years. The 10th Guru, gathered them together again, and trained a group aka the Khalsa, and defeated the mughals.
